A beloved Coventry landmark, the Chace Hotel, is set to rise again after years of closure, thanks to a £4 million refurbishment plan unveiled by its new owners. This historic hotel, located on London Road, has been a silent sentinel since 2021, but its fate is about to change dramatically.
The hotel's new owners, OpticRealm Ltd., have a proven track record of breathing new life into old buildings, and they're bringing their expertise to Coventry. With three other hotels already under their belt, they're no strangers to the challenges and rewards of such ambitious projects.
"We're passionate about preserving the character of these historic buildings," said Tim Cockburn, a representative of OpticRealm. "All our properties are listed, and we take great pride in their unique features. The Chace Hotel is no exception; we love its size, its location, and the way it fits into our portfolio."
But here's where it gets controversial: OpticRealm plans to not only restore the hotel to its former glory but also give it a modern twist. "We want to bring it back as a hotel, but with a fresh feel and character," Tim explained. "It's about respecting the past while embracing the future."
The current state of the hotel leaves much to be desired, according to Tim. "The previous renovations were clearly budget-driven, and it shows. We plan to invest significantly to get it looking right."
The Chace Hotel has been an integral part of the community for decades, and OpticRealm is keenly aware of its significance. "It's part of the fabric of the area," Tim emphasized. "People have so many memories tied to this place - weddings, parties, special events. We want to offer the community a space they can cherish and be proud of once again."
As for the timeline, Tim is cautious about setting specific dates. With the scale of the renovation in mind, it could be a year or more before the hotel reopens its doors. "We don't want to rush this," he said. "We're thinking January 2027, but we'll see. Hopefully, well before spring next year."
Other hotels in OpticRealm's portfolio include the Brownsover Hall Hotel in Rugby, the Bedford Swan Hotel, and Hotel Cromwell in Stevenage.
