"We don't want to repeat history," said Luke Montgomery, the left guard for the Buckeyes. His words echo the sentiment of the entire offensive line, who are determined to make up for the five sacks allowed in each of Ohio State's final two games of the previous season.
The line-up for the upcoming season is still being finalized, but the experience and talent within the group are undeniable. Montgomery, along with his teammates, is eager to showcase their growth and maturity, especially after some key players chose to stay for another year, prioritizing their Buckeye careers over potential NFL opportunities.
"It's super valuable to have all the guys come back," Montgomery emphasized. "We know what the real goal is this year, and we're ready to accomplish it."
While the offensive line has a strong foundation, the team as a whole has undergone significant changes, with over 50 new players joining the roster. However, Montgomery believes the team has come together remarkably well, citing the winter workouts, spring practices, and summer training as bonding experiences.
"We're light years ahead of where we were in January," he said. "I've gotten close to many of the new guys, and I respect their experience and leadership."
As a senior, Montgomery is stepping into a leadership role, but he recognizes the emergence of other leaders within the team. The Buckeyes' motto this year, "You can lead no matter what," reflects their belief in the power of collective leadership and the importance of rising to the occasion.
In the midst of their intense summer training, Montgomery took a well-deserved break to attend the Memorial Tournament, where he participated in a football clinic alongside his teammates and the Golden Cubs, a group of inspiring young patients from Nationwide Children's Hospital.
"I love coming to the Memorial Tournament," Montgomery shared. "It's a great opportunity to support Columbus and this beautiful course, and to see the pro players and the amazing contributions they make."
The Buckeyes' offensive line is not only focused on their on-field performance but also on giving back to the community. Their dedication and passion extend beyond the football field, making them a team to watch out for in the upcoming season.
